Materials Science ranking top 1% of ESI globally

ESI Materials Science covers the related master's degree authorised primary disciplines of Materials Science and Engineering and Textile Science and Engineering in our university. For the past few years, our School of Materials, Institute of Technology and School of Textiles have formed a number of stable disciplines in materials science, materials physics and chemistry, textile materials and textile design, and non-woven materials and engineering. Relying on a number of state-level platforms such as the state key laboratory of “New textile materials and advanced processing technology”jointly built by the Ministry of Province and the Ministry of education key laboratory of “Textile fiber and products, the university has gathered members of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the "National Outstanding Youth", the "National Young Scientist" and the "National Young Scientist". On the basis of the existing advantages of fibre-based high-performance and functional materials, the university has focused on the interdisciplinary research of fibre materials, high-performance fibre materials, biomedical materials, functional materials and 3D printing materials and technologies, etc. The research fields have resulted in the publication of 767 high-level papers in international journals, with 7,386 citations, and the overall level of materials science ranks 147th in China and 962nd in the world.

ESI is a fundamental analytical evaluation tool for measuring the performance of scientific research and tracking scientific trends, and is an econometric analysis database based on more than 10 million literature records from more than 12,600 academic journals worldwide included in the WoS of Corevantage (formerly Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property and Technology Division). The ESI has compiled data from the SCI and SSCI repositories of all universities and research institutions worldwide for the past 11 years, and determined the thresholds for measuring research performance in terms of frequency of citations, ranking the top 1% of research institutions, scientists, and research papers in the world respectively.The ESI measures the level of research, the academic reputation of institutions, the academic influence of scientists and the academic standard of journals in a country/region through six major indicators: number of papers, frequency of papers cited, average frequency of papers cited, highly cited papers, hot papers and cutting-edge papers, etc. in 22 specialised fields. Currently, ESI has become one of the most important evaluation tools for universities, academic institutions and countries/regions in the world to evaluate their international academic standards and influence.
